Matthew 10:28-30

28 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

  1. Siew-Leng Willis says:

What a promise! Who best to find and know rest except in our Saviour. The Lord goes on to say how to obtain this divine rest. ‘Take my yoke upon you and learn from me …..’. A yoke is a devise to join two animals like oxen to plough the fields. We are to be yoked with the Lord, being submissive to Him, doing what He commands. We can do this because His yoke is easy and burden is light, not demanding. The Lord is gentle and compassionate. ‘Casting all your cares upon Him, for He careth for you.’ 1 Peter 5 v 7

  2. Pat Loh says:

What a promise. Once again reminds us who we r in the Lord. Jesus bears it all. We r to cast & Jesus to care. Praise the Lord.

  3. JF says:

The word ‘rest’ has always been God’s plan since creation. He rested on the seventh day after his spoke everything into existence. The rest was created for Adam but Adam failed to enter that rest due to his expulsion from the Garden of Eden. Even then God in his mercy continues to offer this rest to his chosen people. Canaan was a prefigured place of rest. Canaan was a place of rest because God will gave them peace from all their enemies. But that did not last because of sin. Then Jesus came to give us that rest again but many has rejected it. For those who has recieved it, is still ultimately still waiting for the final rest when God redemption process is fulfilled. Throughout history God has offered this rest, first to the Israelites then to all tribes and nations. Be encourage to those whi had been redeemed by the blood of Chirst, for the final rest will be here soon.

  4. Brian says:

“…..Gentle and lowly in heart” To us, to all those who he foreknew he also predetined, called, justified and finally glorified.
He is so gentle and lowly that In the past he saved the isrielites from certain destruction, so too at the present time there is a remnant, chosen by grace, a remnant to be raised up, to shine like the sun. Romans 11:6.
But for the rest, those who have refused to bow the knee to Him, they don’t for a reason. As it is written, “God gave them a spirit of stupor, eyes that would not see and ears that would not hear, down to this very day.”Romans 11:8. To them, He will most certainly not be gentle and lowly at heart, in fact one day very soon he will come as lightening with a two edged sword and lay waste to the land.
Praise God for his gentleness, his pitty on sinners as I, for a love that we can’t even comprehend, and electing, saving and converting love that he rescues us from the mirey pit that we are in and can’t get out of. No, he doesnt help those who help them selves but he saves those who are helpless! thank you my God and my saviour for saving me, now all I need is Christ, nothing else. Amen.
