Reading the Bible For Life

Joshua 1:8 “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”

Bible literacy is a problem in many churches today. Pastors and elders must effectively guide their church to read and understand the Bible. Churches offer many programs to grow their congregation in numbers and also area of spiritual health and but failed to help its body to read, understand and study the word of God.  The health of a church depends on the literacy of its body. Only when the body is healthy, than growth in other areas will be healthy. There can be no transformation of lives, if church members do not read and understand the Bible.

Trevin Wax recently interviewed George Guthrie, a professor at Union University about his new book Read the Bible for Life: Your Guide to Understanding and Living God’s Word. I agree with him when he said: ” Many controversies happen in churches because: 1. the Bible is not the real authority for people . 2. People don’t know how to talk about the Bible in ways that are healthy and fruitful. To read the full interview, click here
